The UAE Golden Visa Route That Needs No Capital at All

Ask most people how to get a UAE Golden Visa and they will tell you about AED 2 million. That is one route out of six, and for a lot of professionals it is the wrong one. The specialised talent category asks for a record, not a bank balance, and it carries the full ten years.

Who the specialised talent category is for

The official categories cover people with rare specialisations, including:

This route is assessed on documented achievement. The evidence is recommendation letters, accredited qualifications and practical experience, rather than proof of funds.

Categories have been expanded repeatedly in recent years, and coverage of who newly qualifies is frequently ahead of, or simply wrong about, the official position. Treat any list you read, including this one, as a starting point and confirm your specific category with ICP before you build a file around it.

Why it gets overlooked

Three reasons, in our experience:

What the evidence actually looks like

This is where files succeed or fail. The authority is not asking whether you are good at your job. It is asking you to prove a specific claim.

Claim What proves it What does not
Senior executive Employment contracts, org position, salary certificates, company standing A job title on a CV
Specialist qualification Attested degrees, professional licences, accreditations An unattested certificate
Inventor Registered patents, IP filings A product you built
Creative Body of work, awards, recognised contribution Follower count alone

Attestation is the real timeline

Any degree or legal document issued outside the UAE typically needs a three-stage chain: authentication in the issuing country, attestation at the UAE embassy or consulate there, and final attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Start this first. It is measured in weeks, not days, and nothing else in your application moves until it is complete. Applicants routinely discover this after they have filed, which is why so many files sit at “additional documents required” for a month.

The salary question

You will see specific monthly salary figures quoted widely for professional routes, commonly around AED 30,000, along with lists of priority sectors such as healthcare, engineering and technology. Those figures circulate on advisory sites rather than appearing as a single fixed rule on the official portal, and they vary by category and emirate.

Take them as an indication of the level being looked for, not as a threshold you can rely on. If your salary sits near any quoted line, that is precisely the situation where a proper eligibility assessment is worth more than another article.

What you get

The same visa the investors get, on the same terms: ten years, renewable, self-sponsored, with the ability to sponsor family, and free of the six-month rule that cancels a standard residence visa when you spend too long outside the country.

The difference is that you did not have to move two million dirhams to get it.

Where to start

Do not file first. Work out which single category your record actually evidences most strongly, then assemble documents that prove that claim specifically. Applying under the wrong category is the most common reason capable people get refused. Our two-minute eligibility check runs through all six.
